I first became aware of Margo Price when she performed on Later… with Jools Holland in 2016. I’m not really a huge fan of country music. It’s a genre I have tried to get into a couple of times but failed. However Margo Price’s combination of incredible music, songwriting and singer makes the genre a lot more appealing to me. And as a result, I absolutely love this EP.
On what would have been David Bowie’s 70th birthday, a new EP dropped containing the last ever recordings taken from the Blackstar album sessions. The songs were technically revealed in the last quarter of 2016 but having them all together on an EP like this is a beautiful touch, especially considering the time of release.
Recorded in the The Saint Cecilia Hotel in Austin, Texas, the entire EP came about naturally. The band eyed up playing in a studio next door but the staff at the hotel insisted they could record in the hotel itself. The bar, the office, the kitchen, the bathroom, wherever they wanted. So they did. The result is a 5 track EP called Saint Cecilia.
