A year ago I said that 2016 wasn’t the best year for new music, but it was considerably better than 2017 in my opinion. There haven’t been many new albums that have stood out, but the following are my favourites from the year.
Chuck Berry passed away on the 18th March of this year and his final gift to the world was a new album, released on the 9th June. It had been 38 years since his previous album Rock It was released in 1979 with Berry focusing more on live work since then, so when news broke before his passing that he was working on a new album I was ecstatic.
The third single from Chuck Berry’s upcoming new album Chuck is an incredible song called Lady B. Goode which certainly takes you back to Berry’s early days of the late 50’s. The guitars are rockin’, the groove is rollin’, check it out!
As a guitarist myself I’m often thinking about my favourite guitarists and how my ranking seems to change depending on what kind of mood I’m in. I thought it’d be fun to put a top 10 list together. Remember, the key word here is favourite. Enjoy.
News emerged last year of Chuck Berry’s first new studio album since 1979 and the first song has been released. After Chuck’s passing a few days ago on the 18th March his new album will be a posthumous release, but it’s a joy that he was able to finish the album before his death. The track is called Big Boys and contains the delicious guitar riffs you’ll always associated with Chuck Berry.
There have only ever been a handful of people that can truly be considered musical legends, musicians who not only defined a genre but also defined every generation of music since. Chuck Berry was one of those legends.
