A year ago I said that 2016 wasn’t the best year for new music, but it was considerably better than 2017 in my opinion. There haven’t been many new albums that have stood out, but the following are my favourites from the year.
It’s been three years since Beck’s previous album Morning Phase was released and in many ways it was a perfect sequel to his 2002 album Sea Change. While his new album Colors still features the exceptional songwriting we all know him for, the album couldn’t sounds more different from anything he has ever done. He has injected his music with a huge dose of pop and the result, is brilliant.
The first song from Beck’s new album Colors has been released, and it’s incredible. After his two last songs Wow and Dreams I was worried that he would continue that kind of style, but he hasn’t. There is a lot of pop but not as much as those two songs. Take a listen:
As these opinion pieces have gone on I thought I’d find these lists easier and easier to do. After the 80’s, which was extremely difficult, the 90’s was relatively easy but this one turned out to be harder than I thought it would be. Turns out I have a large number of favourite albums from the 00’s and it was tough deciding on which ones would make my top five. However, I finally did it.
Beck’s first new song since 2015’s Dreams has been released and it’s called Wow. Originally teased in a number of Instagram videos, the full song reveals Beck’s new sound magnificently.
