  1. Hi Tom, great blog, thanks for all the work you do! I am really looking forward to your D&D book.

    I read some speculation on other sites about whether Duane Allman played the December 3, 1970 D&D show in Detroit. Apparently, someone calling himself “Motownharry” claimed on YouTube in December 2009 that there was a massive blizzard the night of the Detroit show and that only about 80 people showed up to a venue that holds 750. Well, I checked the weather for Detroit on December 3, 1970. It was unseasonably WARM… the temperature ranged from 37F to 57F, and there was a paltry 0.08″ of precipitation, i.e., RAIN, not snow. At 7:00 PM, which was probably close to show time, it was a balmy 54F! See the following Weather Underground link:

    This does not prove that Duane did not play the Detroit show. I think it does, however, call Motownharry’s posted memory of that night into serious question. Have you heard from anyone else about whether Duane played the Detroit show? Thanks.
