SONG REVIEW: Red Hot Chili Peppers -Dark Necessities

Dark Necessities is the new single from the Red Hot Chili Peppers off their soon to be released new album The Getaway. It’s their first new single since Look Around in 2012.

Take a listen:

The first thing that’s noticeable is the lack of guitars. For such a guitar driven band you feel they should have more of a presence in the song but they’re relegated to the background. Even the claps during the chorus are higher up in the mix. However Flea’s bass playing is as exceptional as always and Kiedis on vocals is as good as ever with those trademark melodies.

Overall it’s a good song but not their best. Hopefully there are more guitars on the album.

6/10

Completely agree with you. Good song with a good groove. But josh and especially chad are lost in the background. The drumming on this track is a little dissapointing.
